I’m back today with my second look of my One Dress, Two Looks series. See here for part I. I actually wore this look to work the other day. I often get asked about accessories, how do you know when to wear them? How much is too much? Am I wearing too little? Here was my thought process when getting dressed that morning.
Main piece: I knew I wanted to wear this dress to work because it’s white and eyelet and it’s (almost) summer and well…why not? 😉 After putting it on, I realized that it needed something more to be work appropriate.
Layer: So I pulled out this Forever 21 coral blazer. The length of it was perfect for the length of the dress and for my body type. I have a long torso, so something cropped would hit me in the wrong place, (above my waist). Also with the cut and the silhouette of the dress it balances it out perfectly. However, it still needed something more.
Accessories: How about a belt? I first pulled out a skinny leopard belt. Nah, too skinny and even though the juxtaposition of the edgy leopard with the feminine eyelet would work, it wasn’t the look I was going for. Plus with the slightly oversized blazer, the skinny belt would get lost. Remember it’s all about balance. So, I opted for this wider gold plated belt to define my waist and elevate the look.
More?: To be honest, I would’ve been able to get away with just the belt but I’m sure you’ve realized now that I’m a necklace girl and not only that but a layered necklace girl. I had to wear my name plate gold bar necklace from Bip&Bop because let’s face it, I wear it every.single.day. (I even wear it in the shower – insert monkey emoji with hands over his eyes) and it’s held up for well over 3 years with no tarnish. #truestory Layering with this bar necklace is a cinch because of the length, you can layer any number of necklaces with varying lengths, but I chose a single pendant to finish off the look. Disclosure: the clutch was only used for the shoot. I always have at least one large handbag that I take with me to work.
Shoes: Since these sandals have a gold strap and weren’t flip flops, they were work appropriate for my work. But you can easily pair this look with a nude pump or wedge depending on the dress code of your work.
Questions? Clarifications? I love discovering new ways to style things already in my closet and getting to share them with you. If you have a certain item that you’re unsure of how to style it, tell me in the comments. I’d love to help you!
