Neon Plaid Crop Top

Did you think “Hello 90’s” when you read the title of this post? First of all I never thought I’d ever be caught dead wearing a crop top for the rest of my life, but surprisingly or maybe not, I couldn’t resist this neon number.

Neon Crop Top: Milk & Honey Boutique (old, super cute option, love this one) // Vest: Old Navy (last seen here and here, similar, here) // Denim skirt: Loft, so soft! (option here, here) // Sandals: Old Navy (suuper old, similar, so cute! here) // Crossbody: Target // Earrings: Francesca’s (old, similar, loove these!) // Long Tassel Necklace: Blush Boutique (similar) // Monogram Necklace: Baublebar // Opal Necklace: Kendra Scott // Ring: Baublebar // Watch: Michael Kors // Neon Bracelets: AE (love these!)

To make sure that I stayed within this century of fashion, I chose to style it with a little bit of a higher waisted skirt so that you can’t tell that I’m wearing a belly shirt. The key to pulling off this look is to pick a top that is a little boxy and not tight fitting so it hangs over your skirt and is not clinging to your body. You also need to watch the length of the skirt. The hem should hit around the middle of your thigh, or longer. Any shorter than that and you’re going to look like you should’ve been on Clueless!

This outfit is the perfect definition of how you can take old trends, i.e. a crop top, denim skirt and jelly sandals and make them new, by raising the rise on the skirt, adding in a slouchy cargo vest and a necklace party of different layering lengths. All of these pieces were in my closet already (I can’t even tell you how old these jelly sandals are) and just by adding a few updated pieces such as the denim skirt (last seen here) and this pink tassel necklace, that I picked up at this adorable boutique in Nashville a couple of weeks ago, this outfit is far from a 90’s throwback.

What pieces are you looking to make more present day fashion? I challenge you to look in your closet and see if you can update some of those old pieces you never thought you’d wear again!

As always, thanks for reading!

xoxo, Hillary
