Hey guys, happy Wednesday! Can you believe we are halfway through this week already? After how long last week felt I’m surprised this one’s going by so fast. #notcomplainingthough It’s been awhile since I’ve done an outfit post so I thought it was time for one. Especially one with leggings, since it’s starting to get chilly in the Midwest.
There are many “rules” that have paved their way in fashion throughout the years. Mainly, “black and navy don’t go together” and “black and brown don’t go together” and my favorite “you don’t wear white after Labor Day!” Well I’ve always been kind of a rule breaker, sorry Mom and Dad! and fashion rules are no exception!
The fact that this outfit is all neutrals makes adding a brown boot totally acceptable. I especially love the black leggings against the brown boots, it really makes them pop. You can create this look using black opaque tights too if you’re not so into the leggings.
Which brings me to a fashion rule that I will never break and I would advise you not to either… My friends, leggings are NOT pants!! When you’re out in public and wearing a shirt that’s not long enough to cover both your front and your back there is no reason that you should substitute your pants for a pair of leggings and then add UGGS or faux-UGG boots to “finish off the look.” The look is NOT finished, TRUST ME! I know I’m not the only one who feels this way!
Coat: Old Navy (old, similar, here) // Dress: Target (old, similar, here) // Turtleneck: H&M (old, similar) // Leggings: Francesca’s (soo comfy and only $18! Bonus: these are not in any way see through either!) // Boots: Michael Kors (similar, less expensive option) // Necklace: Express (similar) // Hat: H&M (similar) // Handbag: Michael Kors (similar) // Watch: Michael Kors // Sunnies: Ray-Ban
There were definitely a select few ladies at a certain college homecoming football game this past weekend sporting this look and I was really tempted to fill them in on my little PSA, but I refrained.
Ok. End of rant!
So have I convinced you? Do you dare wear brown with black? Give it a shot, it may surprise you!
As always, thanks for reading!
